Rev. WIlliam Shuler Harris (1865-1956) authored several popular books in the early 20th Century, all of them Christian allegory and speculative fiction. In this "twentieth-century allegory" Harris writes in the vein of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress about the spiritual dangers on every hand posed to "Miss Church member" by the attractive "Mr. World". Harris lampoons modernist theology especially for destroying orthodox Christian colleges and mission organizations and teaching heresy that will lead Miss Church member to hell.
